Lochwood Farm Steading
Lochwood Farm Steading“This is a bed and breakfast(with self catering too) that makes you want to rebook on leaving. Wonderful host, Elaine, who cooks the best breakfast that we have ever enjoyed, and still finds time to chat and be friendly. Saltcoats is worth a visit too, wonderful beach! The accomodation is spotlessly clean and with beds, pillows and duvets that are probably better than you have at home! For the first time ever in 30+ years of traveling all over the world I brought my own pillow, as usual, but didn't use it!”

Secret Scotland
Secret Scotland“My siblings & I were taking my 80 yr. old mother to Stornoway to see where her relatives came from. We are very easy going and wanted a flexible schedule and see the non-tourist areas. We discovered a company called Secret-Scotland and decided to use them. We cannot say enough how wonderful their service was. It was just the personal touch we wanted and they were willing to work with us on what we wanted. I plan on visiting this beautiful country again and would use their service for updates on travel. Thanks to Mike & Aurelia!!”

Secret Scotland
Secret Scotland“I just wanted to let you know about the fantastic service we received from Secret Scotland! We came across the Secret Scotland website and decided to purchase their 5 day Scenic Tour around Loch Ness, Plockton etc. We also booked our accommodation through their accompanying guide. What a brilliant purchase it turned out to be! The guide was clear and concise and so accurate that we didn't need either a map or sat nav for the whole journey. They included some wonderful out-of-the-way places that we probably would never have found on our own - beautiful little waterfalls etc! They also included some 'rainy day' activities - more sites/activities than you could possibly have seen, and all carefully researched and thought through. We decided that we'd really like to have a day to go horse riding - but didn't know where. I e-mailed Mike at Secret Scotland and he recommended 2 different riding centres - one just outside Gairloch if we wanted to ride through forests, and one on Skye if we wanted dramatic scenery. We went to Skye and it was great! We stayed in a really lovely B&B in Plockton (An Caladh) and one of the highlights of the trip was definitely Dry Island in Badachro! Ian and his wife were so welcoming - and we went out on Ian's fishing boat one morning and watched him as he pulled up the creels ... it was wonderful and really brought Scotland alive for us! Thanks to Secret Scotland for one of the most memorable and stress free holidays we've ever had!! We'll be going back to Scotland next year to follow another of their guides! ”

Secret Scotland“Just to say 10 / 10 for service, friendliness & the tour they prepared for us. A wonderful service - you can either purchase a pre prepared tour or a tour customised to your wants, taking advantage of Mike & Auelias knowlegde & experience. Saves many hours going through guide books & means you can spend your time enjoying the wonderful scenery & know the right place to stop for that necessary cup of tea”

“Found this hotel by chance on a recent trip to Arran. What a heaven it proved to be with charming and personal service and little extra touches like lovely local toiletries, hand made chocolate and delicious breakfast plus a freshly-baked treat to take away on your hike. All the ingredients for a repeat visit.”

Secret Scotland“Hi, I was struggling to work out a self-drive itinerary for our trip to Scotland. I found a few sites who do whole packages (tours with accommodation booked by them) but they seemed to be expensive. I stumbled across the above website and contacted them with my ideas. Mike went out of his way to make sure that I got the itinerary that suited us, including detailed driving instructions, things to see and do as well as a list of recommended accommodation in our stopover towns. The cost was minimal and it only took a couple of days. If only he could control the weather for our trip as well! Would recommend this website to anyone who is travelling to Scotland and does not just want to follow the tourist routes. V. Crompton (Australia)”

Failford Inn, Failford, Ayrshire.
Failford Inn“A small Ayrshire Inn near where I live but had never considered visiting until I noticed a "Dogs Welcome" sign. Owned by a lovely young couple with really friendly staff. They offer water and free treats for dogs and the location is great for a very scenic walk in the River Ayr Gorge. The food is great and they have even started brewing their own beer. Well worth a visit.”

Kildonan Stores and Post Office, Kildonan, Isle of Arran“We visit Arran every year on holiday and love it (so much so we're getting married there this year!) and always enjoy visiting the Kildonan Stores to stock up on provisions and sweeties. It's situated in the best village on the island, Kildonan - the shop is situated right on the beach with views to die for across to Pladda Island and Paddy's Milestone beyond. The shop is two minutes from a fantastic seal colony, many can be seen from the shop front having a wee swim. Inside it's an aladdin's cave of foodstuffs and booze.....I was amazed to find the best quality saffron for sale there last year (I can't buy it in my own town in England). The service is always excellent and friendly - it really is well worth a visit.”
